The origin of the family Nelisse dates back till the 17th century and comes from the southwestern part of the Netherlands in the state Zeeland and in particular on the island Tholen in cities like Poortvliet, Scherpenisse, Stavenisse, St. Annaland, St. Maartensdijk, St. Philipsland, Tholen and Oud Vossemeer.
Today the city of Tholen still has a very old city center and it contains some of the original city fortifications. Thogether with the other cities on the island it still contains many old buildings, as can be seen on the following photos (blacksmith, music-hall, windmill, churches)
